The Best Sanibel Island Restaurants
Grouper sandwiches, key lime pie and sunset tables, back in business after the storms.
The best Sanibel Island restaurants are casual, family-run and heavy on seafood, from grouper sandwiches and peel-and-eat shrimp to fresh Gulf fish in a dozen styles. Most are along Periwinkle Way and Sanibel-Captiva Road, and many do not take reservations, so in winter and spring expect a wait at dinner or eat early. Captiva has a small cluster of restaurants in its village, where the evening plan usually involves watching sunset first.
The hurricanes of 2022 and 2024 closed many island restaurants for months or years. Some did not return, and others rebuilt or moved; the places below were confirmed as open in 2026. Hours change with the seasons, and some places close for part of the summer, so check before you go.
